Social Media — Best Practice To Train Employees on Proper Communications

Why a post from a business lawyer on social media day?

Whatever you as a business owner think about social media – be it good, bad, or indifferent – you know that your employees are using it.  And not just for personal chit-chat, but about your business.

These posts can damage the business in a number of ways.  The posts can be about your customers – revealing their confidential information.  Or about your business – also revealing confidential information.  They can be about other employees – publishing libel.

Banning social media posting about the business is not the answer.  Not only will that not work, the First Amendment and labor laws protect certain kinds of posts.

Good communications practice in your company – whether in social media postings, emails, or simply letters – begins at the top.  Good practice also implies training, which a good business lawyer who protects owners can provide.  It is best not to delay on starting that process now.
